Rega P2 vs. Pro-ject Xpression III

I want to buy a turntable to go with my Kef iQ5 se speakers and Cambridge Audio 540a (MK 1) amplifier, I have more or less narrowed it down to the above mentioned turntables but any other suggestion would be welcome. I want to buy new as I don't feel experienced enough to go second hand.

Can anyone offer any advice on these two turntables?

I am probably going to get the 540p CA preamp. Is this a good bet?

Also is there such a thing as a preamp with an optical in?

Not suprisingly I can recommend you the Rega 2 (see my signature)

I cannot recommend for or against the Project Xpression because I have never heard one.

Do you have the newest version of the P2? I was wondering how it differs sonically from the older ones. I know it now longer has the glass platter . . .

I'm with Chebby. I have the P2 with the later platter - actually been wondering about buying a glass one - they come up on ebay all the time.

Don't know the Experience, either. I'd think the arm on the Rega would be better.
