I'm sure there are some benefits with bi-amping but my main problems is you still have to get through the crossover and its expensive.

I spoke to Wilsmlow Audio about active cross-overs a while back. Their thoughts were that active cross-overs can, in some cases, make speakers sound over analytical for hi-fi use. I know that ATCs more expensive range of studio monitors are active. I wonder if that's why AVI use smaller amps to power the tweeters in their speakers...

I demoed the ATC SCM20SL AT active floorstanders a couple of months ago: I found them unlistenably, raspingly dry. The most unpleasant listening experience I've ever had.
