Today I bought 25 Goldring anti-static record sleeves , 25 cheapo non branded ones and a Milty Pro Permaclean record CD/DVD cleaning kit from my local HiFi dealer . I already own an anti static brush . He told me the regime he uses is first to clean the records with the Permaclean , then play the record and finally , before putting the record into the antistatic sleeve, to brush it with the anti static brush .Not just before playing . This would seem to be *** about face but I guess it does make sense .

Anyway , I shall give it a go and see how it works .

Nah, they wouldn't do the Systemdek justice

I took delivery of my cork platter mat today. Makes a huge difference to the soundstage, bass is.........

Nah just kidding. Makes naff all difference to the sound. It stays on the platter though unlike that annoying felt mat that comes with the Systemdek. Looks pretty good too! Well worth £12.49!

And I have not played a CD since then.
I just need a replacement cartridge next.

Ooh, very nice - not at all surprised you haven't played any CD's since!

Looks very much like an Ortofon 2M Red on there at the moment - have you got any particular cart in mind to upgrade to? I'm enjoying things as they are for now, but will be thinking of upgrading my cart (currently 2M Red) later in the year - probably as a Christmas present. Most likely will be a simple swap of the stylus to a Blue due to the cost effectiveness, but who knows what else may have caught my eye by the end of the year.

Yes, I don't know much about the Orbe but I'd have thought it could handle a lot more than a 2M Red.

You want to be thinking 'Jubilee' minimum to get the best out of the Orbe.

Hi all,

Picked up my first turntable 3 days ago and i'm loving it!! I was amazed at how much better it sounds over my CDP. Listening to The Moody Blues Nights In White Satin on a near mint vinyl was incredible especially the orchestra it gave me goose bumps lol, along with Supertramp's Even In The Quietest Moments and Neil Young's Goin Back. I had purchased about 15 new and used vinyls before i got the player and are now ebaying for more as i love the sound that much i cant go back to CD at the moment lol. anyway just had to tell someone how much i'm loving it and that all the people who swear by vinyl are right!

Thanks for your comments, I put the 2M red on it as was only 12 months old and I thought I could get another 6 months out of it. As I have an original Rega RB300 arm I think that a Jubilee may be overkill and I'm not sure I want to spend that much every 18 months. I am thinking about a 2M Bronze or Black.
