I'm looking to upgrade my Denon AVR-2805 to something that'll cope with the HD Audio formats.

My local HiFi store recommended a Denon AVR-2309 for £600 - having heard it, it is very good. However, an Onkyo TX-SR875 can be had for under £700 online, and I'm wondering if this would be a better option?

Unfortunately, my local store doesn't stock Onkyo receivers, so I don't have the option of hearing/seeing them side by side.

Movie performance is the top priority, but I also want to get a reasonable quality for music.

Can anyone offer a view on the AVR-2309 vs. TX-SR875, given the comparable price point?

Also, what alternatives are there at the £6-700 mark?

Any views greatfully received - Cheers!

If the 2309 is anything like the 1909 then it'll be a great receiver. I've had my 1909 for two days and have found it to be a massive improvement over my old 2805. The bass is tighter, the surround more involving and the sound as a whole is more dynamic and detailed.
