I've found the Asian mentality completely different to 2-channel than what we have, they take it more seriously than we do here in Europe, when I was in Japan it was unbelievable, more shops down one road than there is in the whole of this country where I live.

It's just as well we don't have that sort of market here, I'd become even more obsessed with it all.

But will a few crates be shipped back to the uk afterwards.

Andy, looking at the prices anf choice, what would you buy and pack away to send to yourself back here ? There must be some very obvious contenders.

Just out of interest, any idea what the speakers are in the first photo of the blog with the "horn" tweeter?

How much is a ticket to Kowloon? The mass migration of audiophiles begins!

Andrew, how are the prices comparing,ÿparticularlyÿon the UK gear, Naim etc ? I haven't been to HK for a good while.

I normally go down to Singapore for my needs and window shopping, which has similar 'clusters' and 'shopping centres' of HiFi shops, although not so much of the 'pack em, stack em and rack em' shops....The prices are great and it's just so nice wandering around a whole centre of individual shops, each specialising in a few brands, and having separate stores for cabling or a store dealing only in headphones & amps etc....You really can spend a day browsing before you even sit down to listen to anything !

There's a similarÿseriousness that you found there in HK, an almostÿconnoisseur air about good 2 channel gear....Which while I guess still exists in a few specialist UK dealers and stores, there's just more of it in places like Singapore and HK it seems...

WHF reviews and tear-sheets are often posted on the walls, around equipment and in store fronts too ÿ- always there giving a helping hand !!!

Tempted to gawp but not to buy - already on the baggage limit and that's just with the computer and camera kit I've been lugging around to do these blogs and so on. And my wife is doing more than enough on the clothes/shoes/bags front to keep us busy.

All I've bought so far are two-disc sets of Iron Man and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on DVD - been far too busy to shop.

Much the same as in UK on everything - about a grand for the CD5i, and around £850 for the Nait 5i, for example.

Yes, same here, and all the shops selling the local, Japanese (Stereo Sound, HiVi) and US magazines. Must get our licensing people on to that one - think we're missing a trick, given the number of 'Made in England' labels I saw on various bits of equipment.
