Raspberry Pi and Runeaudio to playback hires audio

Has anybody used a Raspberry Pi and runeaudio to playback hires audio files through a DAC.

Going to give it a go but would be interested to find out if anybody has tried it out....

I think there's a few people on here running such a set up with great results. There's also volumio which does the same thing. It's also worth nothing that there's a couple of onboard dacs you buy for the pi with some great chips on them.

Works great at 24/96k (clearer/more depth) but because I'm using with an Audiolab M-Dac it stutters when I try to play 24/192k files.

Sounds better than my Cyrus 6xp CD player and better than my Sonos Connect run through the M-DAC. And a lot more hassle for the rest of the family.

The next on the cheap challenge is to find a way of playing back SACD/DSF rip files. Anybody managed this yet?

is it connected via wifi or ethernet? If it's wifi then it might just be a bandwidth issue.

Hi, have been using the Pi (with a hifi berry dac) for hi-fi for a couple of years now - fantastic little system isn't it which punches well above it's weight.

Was using Volumio, but now use Logitech Media Server (on a Windows pc) and Squeezelite on the Pi as it provides perfect multi-room audio.

As cheeseboy says, the stuttering with 24/192 files may well be a bandwidth issue if you're on wifi - works ok for me if no one else is doing anything on the network, but once the kids start playing games on their computer over wifi for example 24/192 is a no go.

Had a crack with DSF files but couldn't get it to work. Can't remember for sure but think it was a limitation of my dac so you may get better mileage. Good luck!

My audio files are on an external drive connected directly to the PI so there shuldn't be any issues with bandwidth there.

I'm connecting to my DAC via USB and that is the issue. The M-DAC doesn't support 24/192 over USB so if I want to play at that level I'll have to get a Raspberry Pi add on soundcard and go either coax or optical. Has anybody done this and got it working?
