R.I.P. Sir David Amess

I was really shocked by today's news.
When you hear the usual glowing tributes, there's a tendency to think "they would say that". But he really was a decent bloke.
I met him at his surgery and out on the street.
He cared about and solved an issue I had - with a company that was previously ignoring me.
We've all said "MPs are all the same", but we suspect they can't be.
He was my proof that they are not.
Sad loss.

He was my MP. Lived round the corner from me. Lovely guy, he really was as he's being portrayed. I had corresponded with him several times over a particular issue. Went out of his way to resolve it. Such a shock, really don't understand what's going on in this country anymore.
RIP Sir David a true Gentleman and devoted public servant.

I wouldn't worry unduly. We're safer than we've ever been in pretty much every respect (pandemic excepted, alas) - but we are ever more aware of the bad things that happen and our expectations are higher than those of previous generations. Media and social media thrive on the bad, and it skews our perspectives.
