I recently upgraded my kit & have connected my sub (B&W PV1) to the pre out in the Pioneer SC LX81 (currently I'm experimenting with the THX mode). Once the auto detection & setting-up is performed everything works well BUT I'm not happy with the 'loudness'/'volume' of the bass - if u know what I mean. However when I manually increase the channel output the sound is brilliant.

I'm interested in knowing what's the channel output levels (db) you guys are using ?

Cheers !

Hi,

A mate of mine just bought one of these and had a similar problem with his sub (not a PV1 though so his settings probably aren't much use to you). I think it's something to do with the sensitivity of the auto setup mic to low frequencies. He wound up sorting it by borrowing a sound pressure meter.ÿ

Thanks mate. By any chance would you be able to post his settings pls ? That would give me a rough idea as to where the dB levels should be & I can fine tune from there.. Cheers !

Job done then surely??

At the end of the day if you have manually altered the settings and think it is brilliant then relax and watch a movie! What matter most is how it sounds to you......

True.. & I'm more than happy to keep the current settings... But my worry is that I am not sure whether I'l be doing any harm to the sub (in the long run) by 'stressing it out' as a result of increasing the channel output to the levels I have done (original setting was -4.5dB & I increased up to -1 dB). Hence want to know the channel output levels the others are using inorder to gage where I stand...

I reckon it will be fine.

The thing is, the sound is effected by many other factors like where it is positioned in a room so others settings may not give you an accurate basis for the level. I think you will soon know of the sub is struggling.

Have you tried going into the menu & look under the "multi channel in" were there should be a "subwoofer input gain +10db" i found selecting this really helped matters it just added that extra tightness to the bass !

Its worth a try.

Darshana:[(original setting was -4.5dB & I increased up to -1 dB channel ;These settings seem low to mine, how high are your channel levels if you dont mind me asking?

I agree with Messiah. If he had the same sub then copying the settings might give you a useful starting point, but that still wouldn't adjust for positioning and room acoustics. I'll most likely see him Friday though, so I'll ask anyway and post back over the weekend.

Considering you only increased the level by 3.5db, a 10db gain will probably be a bit OTT....

Well i did actually think this also that by adding a 10db gain would be overkill however , when i tried it to my surprise it wasnt the overkill i expected, it just some what made the bass tighter rather than louder, id read in a magazine once about subwoofers were it was recommending you did this, then again it depends on what sub you have & how you have it set i guess?
