Question about time.

I've read a review on here and I remember the last line saying "Lacks timing of the best" What is meant by timing? Is it perhaps a delay in resposne to a particular frequency. This review was for an amplifier.

It's basically a smearing of the leading edges of notes and the way they decay, which means rhythms aren't as well-defined as they could be.

how would one notice these shortcomings? Do you all use specialised equipment or just your ears?

in that case would classical music for exmaple a piano piece be an idea test subject to use.. especiallly one with rests, quiet passages, cresecendos etc?

No, just about anything with a well-defined rhythm - apply the old 'does my foot tap?' test
