Hello to everyone not watching Britain's Got Talent!

I have a Quad Lite speaker system and STILL haven't bought my AV receiver to hook them up to.

They are the last of the old batch of Quad Lites discontinued last year before the new ones took over.

Taking into account their original RRP of £1000 and the fact that I bought them for little over half that amount, what is the most I should be looking to spend on a receiver to do them justice? £300, £500, £800, £1000? Will be keeping the speakers and amp for a while if that makes any difference?!

I was thinking either Onkyo or Yamaha?

Thanks for reading.

Good morning Andrew. Thanks for the response. I believe the fat lady has been handed the words but hasn't started just yet...! I like the idea of the Onkyo, but the WHF review mentioned a lack of subtlety and that maybe the sound was a bit harsh, or would you say they compliment the sound of the quad lites (a touch warm sounding)? Thanks.

I think the combination of the Onkyo - which IMO has a hard-hitting, punchy sound when partnered well - and the slightly rounded sounding Quads will work together very well.

And I see from the papers this morning that the woman did indeed sing, but didn't win.

Sorry Andrew, was a bit slow on the uptake there. She did indeed sing, but it wasn't mean't to be! How would you rate the upscaling via HDMI of the 876? Would i see a benefit in sending my foxsat hdr through it and letting it upscale to 1080p then sending to the screen, rather than just letting to pvr upscale? Panny plasma btw which is a touch soft with SD. Thanks, AGAIN!B-)

No problem Mr E! You have been most helpful regardless and ultimately sound quality is the priority with av amps. I shall have to scout around for the best deal! Possibly after the new onk's are released?! Thanks again.

I run the 606 Onkyo with mine and they sound great, so the 876 should sound even better, if your looking for speaker stands then try Apollo as many struggle to find the smaller top plate stands.

Lobby-thanks for the info. I always think speakers look better when slightly wider than the stand top plates. I shall have a look at the Apollo stands this evening. Shall need 4 in total with the rear ones being taller than the fronts if possible. Thanks again for the infoB-)

Can you wall-mount the surrounds? ÿI have mine at about 6-7 ft and IMHO the effect is better than stand mounting. ÿThe black Maplin brackets work well as long as they are tightened carefully, although you can also achieve a good downward angle by letting the banana plugs rest on the wall.

I would like to wall mount them, but i would need to channel the wires into the wall, but that's not an option unfortunately. From having a look on the Apollo website (thanks lobby) some of their range are adjustable and go to about 1.5m tall. A good compromise i hope sorreltiger! Only going for 5.1. Appreciate your input tho, thanks for replying.:)

I have the Quad L-ites with a Onkyo 875 and was very pleased with it, but upgrade the fronts to 12L2's and L2 Center, the Onkyo's scaller is very very good

Hoping to get a Humax foxsat PVR this week, but the Onkyo scalers is better than the scaler in my Arcam DV-135 this had a RRP of over £1000 and I thought that was good, so should be very good with SD video

Gary233932-thanks for the info. Can't afford full time hd, so need to make the most of sd to keep me sane! Shall look forward to sending the humax into it and allowing the onk to handle the scaling. Thanks again.:)
