I have a B&W PV1 (part of the MT-30 set) and a Denon 2310 AV amp. On three occasions, when playing a loud scene from a movie (normally an explosion), the PV1 stopped working; it was still on (the light was green), but the drivers weren't moving. When I removed the mains or switched it to standby and back again, it started working again. At the time the crossover frequency on the amp and PV1 was set to 80Hz.
I've been told to switch off the Audyssey effects, and increase the crossover frequency to 110Hz on the amp and 120Hz on the PV1. Since I've done this, the problem hasn't recurred. But I just don't understand what was going on, and why this is solving the problem so far. What is Audyssey doing wrong? Why does changing the crossover frequency help? And why did a subwoofer with a 500W amp built in have a problem with some loud explosions (it didn't sound clipped, and there was no banging in the box)?
B&W don't offer support to customers, so it just leaves me feeling that I might have a faulty PV1. I'd be really grateful to anyone that can shed some light on this...
Many thanks.
