Hi all,

Im a complete newbie when it comes to this stuff! I have seen a lot of threads about how to get surround sound from your ps3 etc but none of them seem to make sense to me lol!?

I understand that I need an AMP of some sort, i was also looking to incorporate a sub woofer also. What are the individual things I need to get surround sound from my ps3? I have a sony bravia 32" HD tv. Its for my bedroom which is quite small, only about 15ft by 15ft.

My budget is about £600? Can i get anything with this small budget?

Sorry if i sound stupid but as I said,im a complete newbie to this stuff!

I would preferably like to stick with sony products.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Sonny.

Hi sonny85,With a room that size i would look at the sony htss360 kit.then you will need 2 hdmi cables.this kit is fantastic value for money,as is well within your budget.leaves room to buy some games/blu-ray films as well,What model tv is it?,and what ps3 do you own?.

Hi Grant, thanks for getting back to me so soon!

This is the TV I have in my room:

Sony Bravia KDL32W5810U 32-inch

I have the older shape ps3 though its a 120gb edition model.

Do you have a link for that kit you mentioned by any chance? Does it come with speakers and a sub? What cables would I need also?

Sorry for all the questions!

You can get some decent stuff for that.

Cheap amp 230.00 for a pioneer vsx 819 or sony 800 or 1000 for 300.00

And you cant get the q acoustics 1010i's for quite cheap

Thanks a lot Grant, seen that kit for £350 on amazon so will buy that later today or tomorrow!

Could you recommend any specific HDMI cables I should get? I believe my TV only has two HDMI outputs, I have one connected already from my ps3 to TV, how will i connect the additional two that I need? Sorry again if im being silly!

Thanks!

Also, I have just read that their is an option for S-AIR Ready option for wire-free home entertainment? How can i get this option as I would prefer to be without all the wires for the speakers?

Thanks!

Hello sonny,i would use ixos, qed,or cables that you can afford.you will need to use one hdmi cable from your ps3 into your new amp, then one hdmi from your amp to your tv,your tv by the way has 4 hdmi imputs two on the back and two on the side of your tv,also if you have sky+ or sky+hd/virgind v+hd box you can also run a optical cable into your new amp to.when you set up your ps3 go to sound settings and select liner pcm so the ps3 can do the decoding to be sent to your amp.hope this helps.

You have to buy an s-air wireless adaptor at £165.00,i would not bother as all this does is make the 2 rear speakers semi-wireless,so insted of placing the two rears with cables, you would plug the two rears into this adaptor, the cables are thin any way,and with your room size you would not benifit, its more for larger rooms.

Please clarify this to me. Can the PS3 output dolby true hd/dts hd master audio sound via optical and send it to an older amp? or only via hdmi?

The older "fat" PS3 can decode Dolby TrueHD / DTS HD Master Audio to Linear PCM - this can only be output to a compatible amp via HDMI. The new "slim" PS3 can bitstream (or output natively) the Dolby TrueHD / DTS HD Master Audio soundtracks via HDMI to a compatible amp which would then need to decode these onboard. In either case, HD soundtracks can only be output via HDMI.

For any PS3 model, you can output standard Dolby Digital / DTS soundtracks via an optical cable.
