Hi prof

ok seems i was wrong regarding 1080p gaming.

having looked on the web it seems that if 1080p is on the software box then you have to go into the display settings and uncheck 720p and 1080i to get it to display in 1080p although i suspect this is upscaled ?

if the game does not say 1080p on the box and you leave the boxes unchecked then it displays at 576p so its a matter of playing with the display settings regarding the software being played.

if the software is native 1080p would i still have to do this ?

also i have my ps3 running through a sony ht-fs1 which is a 2.1 sytem http://www.sony.co.uk/product/hcs-cinema-surround-kit/ht-fs1

before today i let my ps3 deside which were the best settings for the display and audio but since finding out about the display settings it got me wondering about audio aswell.

would you have any idea which would be the best settings for my audio with this system

KDL40W4000

PS3

HT-FS1

all are connected via hdmi

i ask you as you seem to be the no1 ps3 guy on these forums.

By unchecking the 720p and 1080i boxes you are stopping your PS3 outputting at these resolutions so if a game is not also supporting 1080p you will get a 576p image even if the game is encoded @720p.

I personally recomend checking all avalible resolutions and let you PS3 decide what resolution to use (it will always opt for the native resolution) and let your TV deal with any further scaling (doing it this way you also save a little processor power on the PS3)

Agree with DJ on the resolutions - just keep them all checked and output at the native format.

Audio wise, according to the manual, the HT-FS1 accepts multichannel PCM via its HDMI so I'd have it set to Linear PCM to convert any HD audio formats onboard.
