Im looking to get a PS3 for its many uses, but Im curious, I have a standard def CRT with componant input, would I be able to play a blu-ray movie allbeit in standard def? And if so, would it still look better than a DVD due to better encoding and much higher bitrate?
Thx!

That would surprise me because even a superbit DVD looks better than a normal DVD.

Then you need to ask WHF team.
I tried a Tosh hddvd player once on a sd-crt,didn't notice any difference.
No matter what you feed to your tv you'll only get what your tv can handle.
