PS3 > AV Receiver > TV vs. PS3 > TV > AV Receiver

Hello.

In the past, my PS3 was connected to my AV Receiver via HDMI which, in turn, was connected to my TV via HDMI.

I'm wondering if I will experience any sound degradation etc if, instead, I connect my PS3 to my TV via HDMI and then use an Optical cable to connect my TV to my reciever via the Optical Output audio out in my TV.

Without going into detail, I want to control my HDMI inputs with my TV controller rather than my AV Receiver controller.

Optical out will not support HD audio, so you will lose out on that.

Also, a lot of HD tvs will only passthrough the audio as digital 2.0 leaving the amp to use Dolby Pro Logic.
