Hi Folk,

Just wondering if anyone can commment on the quality of the ps3's 3d blu-ray (picture) quality versus a standalone player. I hopefully will have my 3d 42VT20 this day week and have got the ps3 all set to go! Just about to order cloudy with a chance of meatballs from amazon.. any other discs worth ordering that are widely available at the moment?

Cheers,

Mick

I too have Panasonic VT20, must say the set is excellent, plus i have Ps3 and a panasonic BDT300 3D blu ray player. I can tell there is a difference image quality, which also applies to 3D. The PS3 playback is good but i personally find my BDT300 performs better. I guess you would need to see it for yourself. Chance of Meatballs is an excellent especially in 3D.

so you would suggest going down the route of a dedicated player? i have a buyer for my denon 1910 and can get a 1911 at a decent price which is 1.4 hdmi.. the retailer might thrown in a bdt100 with my tv.. so might be tempted!

Mick, check out the panasonic web page under offers and i am sure that if you buy any 3D product at the moment you get a free 3D movie.

It's personal choice really, however with Ps3 I have heard that although it does 3d with new firmware it apparently does not do lossless sound, which may be an issue if you wanting true HD sound from your amp. Some people can't justify it or see any difference but in my opinion i can. Also for me the most important thing was image quality and having THX mode set to the anything being played from the dedicated player and having a seperate mode for Ps3 e.g. gaming without having to keep changing the settings on ps3 depending on what i was playing.

For me the the didcated player the image seemed brighter, sharper and sound quality out of the dedicated player was better too.

If you can get a good deal as a package or can go and see one for yourself this may persuade you.

i have a dedicated blu-ray player for 2d content.. but for the time being until there's more 3d content available and if i like it.. i will be using the ps3 for 3d content.. yes it wont do lossless audio.. but i think for the amount of 3d i'lll be watching DTS core and dolby digital will do fine.. hopefully i'll have my tv by the end of the week so can report back then.. if i like 3d.. i'll be very interested in the Oppo BD93 coming out next year!
