My system consists of a Marantz CD6003 CD player (just bought through your recommendation), Cambridge audio AZUR 640A AMP (second hand bought recently due to the death of my NAD) and some B & W DM330 speakers (second hand but had for 20 yrs).

My problem is that I have just noticed some grating/distortion on the high treble sounds at med to high volume.

Could the Cd player be faulty?

Is the AMP faulty?

Are the speakers not suited to the AMP?

Are the tweeters faulty on the speakers?

I have a very good ear and now I have noticed it it is driving me mad, can anybody help solve my problem?

If the speakers are not suited to this amp I would welcome suggestions for some compatable ones.

Cheers,

Martin

Hi fridge mouse,

In my opinion. I would first check to see if you have any mechanical issues, check cabling polarity e.t.c. If it's all ok consider using(if not already a standard multiple strand OFC speaker cable and standard black and red interconnects. If it is still there I would probably look at the amp as the culprit as I have never noticed this with the Marantz.. In may be just me but I findmost CA equipment troublesome in the high frequencies. just my opinion. See if you can demo a Marantz pm6003.

sorry about the red typing
