Problem getting sound from my new cinema kit when watching TV

Hi

Just bought a Sony DAV DZ260 ,and when i try to watch tv the sound is just like when you have no aerial plugged in,i.e a loud hiss

I think it may have something to do with my old TV set that i am about to replace

here is my set up at the moment

Very old Panasonic TV (Just bought this Samsung LE40A686M1 for £700 with 5yr warranty)

I have one of those infrared signal transmmitters which i am using to send the SKY tv signal from another room into the TV which has the suround sound system connected,this uses a scart input into the back of the panasonic),i.e into AV1

The cinema sound system plugs into AV2,i can watch DVD fine,and the sound is ok,but as soon as i watch TV i have the problem described earlier

I would like when watching TV via the Signal transmitter to beable to use the Surround kit to listen to the TV

Is this because i am using 2 separate AV inputs for the 2 different things?,i.e TV and cinema kit?

I have just ordered an Optical cable,as i guess i will need ones of these

Sounds like the tv doesn't pass sound out through the AV connection. AV2 is probably an input rather than an output.

Thanks for the reply,it was indeed the IR scart box causing the problem

I have since connected SKY tv to the tv via a magic eye link,which doesnt use a AV port,and the sound is great

Just need my new tv to arrive now
