Glad to see the review is back, as I am interested in this Primare pair too, although it's a bit late for me

as I've already spent a bit of time searching out my old copies of the mag to read the full reviews.

One question for the team is, are they both still 5* rated?; as I know you like to down grade products that no longer "cut the mustard".

As regards speaker matching I note that the "now add these" recommendation in the 2005 Awards issue was Proac Studio 140 speakers; and in the 2006 Awards issue it was both the B&W 805S and the Proac Studio 140 speakers (depending whether you looked at the amp or CDP award).

I know it's about the sound but there is some ugly equipment out there; excluding the Primare which just seems have classical good looks, imho.

fast eddie:are you looking to replace th speakers with the pro-acs too?I have the tablette reference signature 8's and when i asked then what they would suggest for electronics they said lots of owners use Naim or Primare. Having said that i went for Moon and love the set up.

I love mine, but I wouldn't want them as my first system as you don't get the scale. Having said that I have been sitting in the kitchen listening to them for the last 3 hours more than happily so what do I know!

They are a very musical speaker (eh)

if only i had that problem!

I can't say i miss anything, but then i often wonder if i don't listen/hear as much as everyone else. Although that's not a bad thing - i don't feel the need to upgrade (but i probably will once i have a lot more money - purely to get some floor standers i think.)

How much would i have to spend to better the 8's?

£1,000 or so, but not necessarily better, just different.

The problem with upgrading from a pair of speakers like the little 8s is speed. To get a speaker that can provide as much insight, with greater range and to maintain the speed is very difficult. If you're happy then stick with 'em! Maybe get a sub

Yep, good for electronic and tunes.

Clare Newsome:
if it wasn't for your subwoofer underpinning, i'd be more concerned on the Cyrus/Tannoy system sounding lean, rather than bright (but again, variables there - do you have carpets or wooden floors!)

Personally I'd say the Primare duo outclass your speakers - superb though the Tannoys are, the Primares are capable of driving bigger/better boxes. Hence me suggesting you don't rule out slightly cheaper components, as well as still auditioning the Primares and anything else that takes your fancy.

Of course the beauty of this hobby/passion is that one's system can (and does) keep evolving. I expect that the future will hold bigger/better speakers for me and when that day comes it will be nice to know that i already have a top draw amp and cd player to drive them. But like i say i will definitely compare your recommendations.

hi black crow king,i have the primare i30 and cd31 connected with chord anthem2 balanced interconnect and epic twin speaker cable,i can tell you with confidence that the combo has not become inferior overnight,to my ears this is still an excellent and very competent hifi system(with or without chord cables),i live i western australia and yesterday (friday) took my elecronics and cables with me to my local hifi expert to demo new speakers,i can tell you they are very capable and are able to play very well with lots of diferent speakers,i ended up choosing an australian made pair of floorstanders - sonique diamond 750se,wonderful to my ears and i left the shop with a large grin, anyway black crow king dont worry the primare electronics are excellent, make sure you demo and enjoy.

JohnDuncan:Ooo will you look at that Anyway, I'd absolutely stick the Primare pair on your list. They're more expensive than they used to be, but still a fabulous pair if you ask me...

Very nice John, but how about the review on the CD31? I still can't access it.
