Ok in my last thread I said £600 the limit for new surround sound speakers, suppose I was wrong.

Now Interested in the KEF 3005se (award winners). Everywhere I look they retail at £995 - £999.

This seems a little stange that no one out there is offering us bargain hunters a deal, why is this? If this is not the best price, where can that be found?

Many thanks

A few years ago the Government decided to abolish RRPs on certain electronic goods. So big companies such as Sony, Samsung, Philips, LG et al are no longer allowed to set a fixed price on DVD players, home cinema systems, TVs and so on. The aim was to open up the market for consumer electronics to more competition and enable retailers to set their own prices.

However, certain hi-fi products were exempt from the legislation, including CD players, amplifiers and speakers. So it is still perfectly legal to have an RRP on those items, but not others. Mad but true.

In this instance, KEF is perfectly entitled to set an RRP on its KHT3005SE speaker package and stick to it. Given that it's relatively new, and one of our Award winners, you may well find there's very little discount to be had at this stage.

I guess it's not unlike a car manufacturer introducing a new model which is much in demand. Initially dealers will be reluctant to offer discounts if they can sell every car they get at full retail.

However, in a year or two demand may drop off then prices could fall.
