Merry Chistmas everyone,

Can anyone recommend a pre-amp to use with a valve amp for playing vinyl? And does the pre-amp necessarily need to be valve also?

Thanks.

No it doesn't, and without any more information I cannot make any suggestions.

....... and welcome to the forum.

We would need to know which valve amp and what you're budget is.

The amp is Separo P88i ultra linear valve and I suppose a couple of hundred quid for now, as I new speakers also.

Many thanks.

I'm kind of guessing you actually need a phono pre-amp as you have line stages and volume on your main amplifier.

You need to know what cartridge you have and do some research, given that you are unlikely to get much in the way of a serious demonstration, you will probably have to rely on reputation and reviews.

Look at brands like Musical Fidelity. ProJect, Schiit etc.

Google phono stage and go from there.

Good advice. Assuming a Moving Magnet cartridge the just a couple of hundred on a good phono stage is restrictive. The Schiit option would be a good route. Again it doesn't have to be a valve design and the OP is unlikely to find one for that budget.
