Hi, I have just bough an Epson - TW9100 Cinema projector. I've still to buy the screen. I tried out the projector last night connecting it to a blu-ray player and projected the picture onto a white pained skimmed wall just to check it was working ok . The picture is brilliant but I did notice that if you walked close to the wall there seemed to be a 'snowstorm' of tiny black random pixels - placing white A4 paper in front of the wall (to compare a different surface) I still had this. The projector was about 2 metres away to test at that distance you could see the 'snowsorm' a little. Is this normal or is it due to the imperfect surface i'm projecting onto. I did notice with the subtitles in white writing they had no storm in them but it was around them on the picture. The Projector was ex demo so I'm worried there is a fault in it. I've a cheap projector at my work and today when I played a film onto the screen this effect did not happen and also none with A4 paper in front of screen. Advice much appreciated. Thanks Graham

Hi

The random pixels are not down to the surface. They are more likely due to electrical interference somewhere.

If the only factor you changed was the projector and the cheaper one had no such issue then it could be the new projector at fault. But if the new projector is higher resolution then it could be a cable issue.

Are you using a decent HDMI cable? By decent I mean up to full HD spec, not necessarily an expensive one. My full HD HDMI cable is 12m long and only cost £35!

Thanks for comments ,

Tried again testing - the snowstorm of black pixels appears to only occur in some parts eg background - this was Blu Ray 'Lives of Others' I then tried a DVD 'The Lady' don't seem to be as much.

Then I noticed that the part in focus seems not to have this effect eg persons head but back ground eg a wall which is not in focus seems to shimmer this happens especially with brown or yellow.

Perhaps i'm worrying as I spent a lot of money on it - its ex demo and I'm hoping theres not a fault with it not sure how to tell if this is a problem. Notice on the outer lens there seems to be a small 4 sided shape and a small line near it etched into - why. Maybe i'm being paranoid about it as its ex demo and i'm trying to covince myself something wrong.
