I have been researching ( reading the magazine ) for a while now.

From what I can gather : LCD make the best small screens and Plasma the big screens.

But I'm after a 40" or 42" and this seems to be the middle of the road. I'm wanting full HD so the pana 42PZ70 sounds like its what I need. Reading last months issue got me confused, the Sony 40W4000 also reads as it it can also do the job.

There doesn't appear to be a decent 42" LCD about?

So what are my best options?

Thanks

Hi mrzule

Thinking a little outside the box here. You say you're after a 42" TV and you mention the PZ70B. Looking at the external dimensions of the PZ70B and comparing with another set made by Toshiba, namely the 46FZ355Dÿthere's very little difference in size. The width of the PZ70 is 1048mm while the Tosh is merely 22mm wider at 1070mm.ÿ

Thrown in with the bigger screen the Tosh is a very tasty looking set and is a veryÿcompetent LCD performer to boot! You should be able to scoop one up for a litle over £1300!

I hope I ain't put a spanner in the works, merely broadened your options.

Happy hunting and remember, at the end of the day only buy what your eyes are happy with.ÿÿ

Thanks GearHunter

That is a good idea, it had not crossed my mind. The only thing I see wrong with that is the Tosh is £1235 and the Pana is £755.

Is it really worth that much more?

I could get the new Onkyo 606 reciever for that...

I didn't realise budget was a deciding factor, I presumed screen size and type of display were your only concern, my apologies.

You mention the Onkyo SR-606. If you're only going to use it as a cinema surround then go for it. The only problem I found is that when you pump music through it it does tend to sound quite bright/harsh. It wasn't to my taste when auditioning last week but it was fantastic when watching a movie.

The two TV's you mention are top notch. The TH-42PZ70B is a fantastic plasma and the KDL-40W4000 is a fantastic LCD. If you Google HDTV Test you should find more information that may help you decide which TV to throw your cash at. Also, to help you decide, the best thing to do would be to find a dealer that has both sets available and can, ideally arrange for you to compare them side-by-side.
