Looks like Plasma screens could be banned in certain countries:

Amazing - I guessed where the story came from before I even opened your post

And I think the days of self-levitating string on wooden train-sets are numbered too...

Forget the story on the Mail page - read the pages and pages of comments beneath it.

Middle England speaks - hilarious!

That is hilarious!!! The DM never fails to pull through with a headline.

I don't get it, are you saying the story is OTT? because

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/4222445/Power-hungry-plasma-screen-televisions-to-be-banned-under-new-EU-legislation.html

It still means some of the current plasmas will be banned in future so please clarify, why the dismissal of the article ?

There is also talk that all Curry Houses within Low-emission zones will be closed down due to fear of to many trouser trumpets for the leaving customers!

And what, pray tell, is wrong with the Daily Mail?

(Just kidding...)

Do you honestly think that there will be Plasma Police roaming the country in VERY black uniforms, checking for sub standard screens and then ripping them from walls, leaving a Sony booklet and a cheeky smile???!

Erm they won't need to if such a law is passed the manufacturers will not want to be flouting the law

kage:And what, pray tell, is wrong with the Daily Mail?

Nothing that a stint of National Service wouldn't put right...

If such legislation were to be allowed, the manufacturers would design appropriate plasmas (like the farmers who grew straight bananas!) and there would not be a problem. In other words, there is no drama, no worry. Daily Mail makes a mountain out of a molehill shocker!!

I was simply pointing out that a ban is still a ban, it is dressed up as a bigger headline than it is sure but it's not inaccurate

And after all if both the Mail and the Telegraph carried it...

Anyway by the time it happens just about every new set on the market will have greatly reduced energy consumption - it's been a theme of every new TV presentation we've endured experienced lately - and so the story is a bit of a non-starter.

But they're not banning plasma TVs, they're banning TVs which use over a certain amount of power. New plasmas will just follow that guideline. And old plasmas will continue to be used. So it's not really a news story.

EDIT - yeah, what Andrew said!

Don't get me wrong I think the plasmas energy consumption is ridiculous but at the same time I guess the bigger point here is that the *expletive* central body is interfering again. I guess i am just not a big fan of either them, or in general more and more laws.

What it is is totally irrelevant, being as all the plasma manufacturers have already committed to producing lower-energy consumption panels (and in fact many current designs from top brands are already far lower-usage than older offenders).

Eat up your Brussels - they're good for you...

I think it's called 'being seen to do the right thing' - while actually not doing anything of any significance whatsoever.

I hope they don't ban the microwave. If the computer goes I'm *********.

Your computer is in your microwave???

Is it not the same thing? I've been programming that damn computer ever since I bought it and it still won't produce a decent spud.

What, not even

Is there some link here between chips and computers. lol
