I can get the Pioneer VSX-1018AH, the Sony STR-DA3200ES and the Onkyo TX-SR805 for about the same amount of money.

I can't see reviews for the DA3200, only the DA2400 and the DA5300, so I'm not sure about it (it's the cheapest )

What order would you place them in quality, i've got AE Aegis Neo 5.1 speakers :)

Thanks

Well, as no-one was interested, or could give advice here, I went with the Onkyo TX-SR805, which I bought from a nice chappie on eBay for £350 :)

I'm currently going through the set-up procedure (a lengthy one) but I think I made the right choice.

For anyone else thinking of similair amps, go for the Onkyo - it's a belter.

The only time I've ever heard an Onkyo was at the Bristol show a couple of years back and it was horrible, really, REALLY bright and harsh, it made my ears hurt just walking past the stand, I remembered thinking at the time it wasn't a very good advert.

I did have a serious ear infection at the time though, an M&K surround speaker upstairs nearly blew my eardrum out because I was stood next to it when a gun shot in the movie that was showing went off. That really hurt! It was still impressive though!

The MIller & Kreisel set ups are always impressive at the shows, and are usually by far the best sounding rooms there for AV.

A customer yesterday tried out an Onkyo with some KEF 2005.3's, as his friends has the KEF's too, with a Sony amp. He said his friend's system didn't sound particularly involving, but with the Onkyo amp it sounded far better. Suffice to say, he went with the Onkyo.

LOL!

That's like blaming a Steinway for being a rubbish piano, if I tried to play it with broken fingers!

Congrats on the 875. It's a stormer, and for that price it's an astounding buy. I paid £1k for mine!

:-(

(Only kidding. Even at £1k I feel like I got a bit of a bargain!)

;-)

Well I guess, except I did hear other stuff there that sounded very good. I'm going on Friday again, so I'll keep an ear out for the Onkyo stand, no colds or infections this time!

I might be reading that wrong but is there an implication there that M&K aren't so impressive away from the shows?ÿ

Thanks Big Chris (although it is an 805 lol)

Im very happy with the Onkyo and think it has plenty of power and presence.

Now I just have to get another 2 speakers to go the full 7.1 :)
