Pioneer SC-LX82 voice/picture synchronisation problem with Sky

Dear All,

have recently got my home cinema set up completed (kit list below). The one thing I can't sort out is voice and picture being slightly out of sync when viewing Sky on the TV. Have fiddled with the time delay on the Sky settings to no avail - hard to tell but if anything it seems that the video is ahead of the sound so delaying the sound makes it worse.

Any suggestions very gratefully received. Otherwise everything is perfect - in particular the JVC projector is outstanding (not that I have many points of reference but I did see the HD550 and the HD950 side-by-side at the JVC HQ in London and felt that the pic quality of the 550 was actually better than the 950 and a whole lot cheaper..a purist would disagree I'm sure!).

Thanks in advance

Jon.

TV: Samsung UE46B8000

Amp: Pioneer SC-LX82

Blu-Ray: Pioneer BDP-LX52

Proj: JVC DLA-HD550

Spkrs: B&W MT-30

Sky HD

Hmm Have the same amp and sky hd also. Have you tried hooking up the sky via optical and coaxial? I dont think that digital surround sound can be passed over the hdmi between the sky box and the amp.

Ps Quick question how is the lx 52? Quick loading? Stereo performance with cd? Did you audition any other players??

First thing I would try is a full power down (mains cables out) of both Sky box and amp. Then reboot and see if that's cured it. The delay shift on the Sky box is actually usually enough to cure any slight delays so it sounds like there's a pretty big lag somewhere. Your Pioneer should have a better/finer delay adjustment.

Thanks very much - yes it is indeed linked with HDMI so will try it with an optical and coax and see if that solves it.

I've been really pleased with the LX52, to my eyes at least the picture quality is faultless. It's much quicker to load than the Panasonic BD35 I've got elsewhere in the house (albeit different price range) and I haven't got round to loading a firmware update yet which I'm told will improve it further. As the system is new haven't even tried playing CD yet but will give it a bash and revert. I confess I didn't audition other players as (a) a mate of mine had the same pioneer combi so I saw it in action (b) seemed sensible to pair them (+ got a deal on the combo) and (c) it got 5* on whathifi and I trust those guys!

I have the Pioneer LX-82 with Sky and I too have voice/picture sync.problems but not on HD channels.

I have coaxial for sound from the Sky box.

Any answers please.

Got me thinking if i have a problem........ but no lip sync probs. I couldnt get 5.1 sound from my hd box using the hdmi so use an optical between sky box and amp. No issues at all. Like previously said try making direct connections between sky box and tv bypassing the amp. See how you get on.

I'm using the Pioneer 'LX82 at the moment (oddly enough with the 'LX52 Blu-ray player, too - great combo) with Sky+ HD and have no such issues. Sky box is connected to the projector via HDMI and receiver via optical.

NSYGrinner/John..Boy: if I bypass the amp I won't be able to get sound from the external speakers (or have I missed something?). The way the TV is set within a constructed frame I don't want to use the TV speakers (which are on the side of the samsung) as they are partially obscured and apparently not that great anyway.

Clare: do you watch sky though the TV and have no probs or only through the proj? I haven't tried latter but will give it a go tonight to see if there is the same problem.

In anycase sounds like I need to try an optical link.

Thanks for all suggestions.

Jon.

I don't own a TV - everything goes through my projector.

And yes, optical is the way to go.

This is more just to troubleshoot opposed to fix the problem. I think that the optical is certainly worth a try as, correct me if wrong anybody!? You cant get 5.1 over hdmi from the sky hd box??

Let is know how you go.

Ps remember and use the signal sel button under the slide on the remote to select the audio input to your amp.

john1000000boy:, correct me if wrong anybody!? You cant get 5.1 over hdmi from the sky hd box??
Correct, it's well documented fact that Sky boxes can't output DD 5.1 over HDMI.
