This new model appeared on Pioneer's (EU) website. A curious beast really - I'm trying to figure out which model this is supposed to replace. 7.1 but €1299. So it seems somewhere between the new VSX-1131 and the 'old' 9.2 SC-LX59. Maybe it's the (several generations) newer version of my AVR which used to be pitched between the budget VSX machines and the higher end SC-LX receivers.

But if so, that seems a pretty high RRP to begin with. Mine was initially £800 in its day.

I believe this is the new naming convention for the Pioneer range.

i think we gathered that!

Ok I was half right, but according to this there will also be an SC-LX901 which will be an 11.2 amplifier!

Meant to add more but had to dash.

I had heard of a 11.2 amp coming from Pioneer and a change to the model numbering about 2 months back and becoming 3 digits.

Ah ok! *smile*

We discussed it a little bit before here:

Definitely made by Onkyo then.

Don't you think Onkyo employed some of Pioneer's staff then when they bought their AV division? So their new range of receivers may take the best elements from both brands?

In the comments in the linked article it says Onkyo and Pioneer will still retain their own distinct sound signatures?

I'm very interested in the SC-LX901 - will be keen to find out more about it as I need an Atmos amp.

Depends, as long as Onkyo retains Pioneer's MCACC room calibration and doesn't ditch it for its rather poor in-house AccuEQ as it did with its receivers replacing Audyssey.

It has MCACC Pro:

I've been looking at the 501 too and believe it is not a replacement for the LX59. The 501 is a 7.2 amp with 120W per CH @ 11.8kg. The 59 is a 9.2 amp with 190W(6ohms) per CH @ 15.3kg.

Looks like the 701 is the replacement for the 59, as it is a 9.2 amp with 175W(6ohms) per CH @ 15.8Kg.. not that weight is really hugely relevant.

I'm hoping the LX59 comes down to what the LX58 did when the 59 was announced @ £599, to replace my sony amp:http://www.whathifi.com/forum/av-receivers/replace-my-aging-sony-av-amplifier-str-db940
