There is an offer locally for the above TV which I know is the older model but I am told it is a very good model in the Pioneer range! I am told that the screen is better in this model and the newer models have a cheaper screen to keep the prices down!! Just wondering what anybody thinks.

I was looking at the 46" Samsung but I am now confused as to whether to go for Plasma or LCD!

The sound quality with Pioneer appears to be much better than the Samsung and the picture quality also.

Any suggestions. Its my first flat screen t.v.!

Thanks.

Well, personally, I'd be angry with whoever told you that information because they're basically lying to you. The salesman is obviously trying to make a quick sale. The 427XD(7th gen) is a very good tv but the newer 8th generation 428XD (or the 4280XD) is a big step forward and universally considered to be the best 42"(plasma or LCD) tv on the market. There is no component within it that is inferior to the previous generation. In fact, it's quite the opposite. The panel is a huge improvement and black levels are the best around. The built-in speakers are excellent too. Do a bit of research on the web and check out the reviews. They pretty much speak for themselves.

If you are after a 46" screen, Panasonic are about to ship a Full HD 46" Plasma, the 46PZ85. No reviews on it yet but if it's anything like the 42" model, it should be very good.

Absolute pish - the Kuro Pioneers (428 etc) were/are a massive step up in quality, both on older Pioneers and other rivals. Which is why they even now command a price premium.

Yes, the 427 is good plasma, but TV technology has moved on so far/fast, I wouldn't suggest buying it as new.

So, go plasma, but either go with a Kuro or a 2008-model Panasonic or Samsung plasma - the models we've so far have been excellent.

Yes the claim about the display panel is inaccurate, but how good a deal this is really depends on how cheaply you can get the 427, which is still an excellent TV.

Can't find a review on the Samsung 46 inch plasma! Any opinions?

Also are the Panasonic and 8th Gen Pioneer 42 Plasma 100 hz?

Out of the three mentioned, which would be the better to go for?

Sorry for all the qustions but its alot of money and don't want to make a mistake! Prices in Ireland are much more expensive than the UK!!!

Thanks!
