Current screen: Pioneer 428xd. Blu-Ray Player: Pioneer LX-91.

Am thinking of upgrading/upsizing my screen to the FULL HD 1080P Pioneer 5090 model before production's stopped. My room is just over 3m in breadth, so viewing distance will be less than 3m to screen (more likely 2.5m). Is this too close, and will I notice a huge difference over the already excellent picture from the 'only' 720P HD READY screen?

id say that is too close , a very experianced forum member here ( drummerman ) said that it was too big for him , and i think his viewing distance was more than yours , 46inches or a little smaller may be better for you id say . according to clare, there is a big improvement in picture quality when stepping up to a 9g kuro from an older model .though unless you watch mostly hd , 2.5 m is too close..

well, imo it should be atleast 3.5m (12 feet) minimum for SD viewing on 50'' screen. Would like to see other people's comments???

I can understand the temptation, but I think the others are right. I have the 4280XD (basically the same TV as you) and sit at about 3m. If I sit forwards (when the Lions Test gets a bit too exciting!) it's still a great picture on an HD channel, but I start to see pixels rather than a smooth image. I'm also constantly amazed at how brilliantly the TV upscales SD TV and DVD. I'm sure the full HD Pioneer is great too, but I doubt if it can produce quite as good a picture going all the way up to 1080p.
