I've am wondering if there are any screens that outclass the HD Ready Pioneer screen for picture quality, motion etc. ? I could probably fit a bigger screen size 46/47 inch display into my viewing space. Would like decent standard def performance but ultimately it's blu-ray performance that's the #1 priority. Am I right in thinking that a Full 1080P screen will produce a better picture than the Pioneer? Another option is to have the Pioneer calibrated. Would this be worthwhile? Have been pouring over screens and like the 'monolithic' design of the Sony screens and the LG Infinia range also look tasty. Budget: £1.5-£2K.

The only significant improvement over your Kuro is going to be a 9G Pioneer screen or one of the V20 / TXP50VT20. Anything less is going to actually be a downgrade, my parents have a 42" 8G Kuro and it still wipes the floor with any modern LCD. I watch it in amazement each time i go home and i own a 9G Kuro myself,.ÿ

Thanks for the reply boxrick. I've very little chance of picking up a brand new 9G Pioneer now, I'm sure! Am considering the LG 50PK990 @ £1200 or may wait for the WHSAV review of the Panasonic you mentioned. Am keen to know how Full LED screens compare to the Pioneer Kuro range and newer plasma screens in general...

if you like your kuros picture , id think carefully about going to an lcd , i did that last year , but was lucky that after a few days with the lcd , my dealer agreed to let me pay a little more and change back to a plasma ...

the lcd (samsung 46b650) was a fine tv , but i yearned for the more natural picture i felt that plasmas have , the motion , while good on the samsung , is also much better for me on my plasma , among other things....

Wow, replies from two of the What Hi-Fi team and it seems that Andrew's a fan of the Pioneer! Thank you for taking the time to reply. It seems that the Pioneer is still holding up well and I look forward to your review on the Panasonic screen...

Yes, apparently it is the case. I think this will prove a big coup for Panasonic and that their screens will improve accordingly...

As I have said before, some ex-Pioneer staff may have joined Panasonic, and indeed Panasonic has bought some of Pioneer's IP, but there's no direct correlation between this and the current Panasonic TVs.

My comments about hanging on to the current TV is purely because it is still very good, and each year's new sets seem to deliver more picture for less money, so it makes sense to hold out as long as possible with that is still an excellent set before taking the plunge on a new one.

I didn't NEED to change my plasma, a PDP 436 XDE, but was lucky enough to be offered a KRP-500A at what i considered a good price-so snapped it up. Have to say this is a fantastic tv. Everything ever writen about it is true. I moved the PDP up to my bedroon, and although i hardly use it, every time i DO use it, i am blown away by just how good the picture is, still! I have got it using the in-built tuner, (something i hadn't used before as i had skyhd), and it truly is a fantastic picture.

Stick with your Pioneer....something would need to be visably better in pq to justify the change!!

The 6th & 7th Generation Pioneer Plasmas, which ive owned both are still good. They are however only 720P, black are only 'ok' compared with todays sets, motion on the screens compared to the 9th Generation is aweful and with the freeview there is lots of ghosting that occurs on the picture.

The biggest leap in technology for me was the 8th generation, where there was a drastic change in PQ. The 8th is almost like the 9th generation screens, only slightly behind in PQ. So all in all.........you have a cracking TV

Clare Newsome:Panasonic TX-P50VT20 arriving for review on Monday, i've just learnt....

I thought Pioneer had pulled out of making tv's last year. I take it they've now reversed this decision?

We've rearranged our living room and now have room to accomodate a larger screen. Have found a buyer for my Pioneer and am looking for a 50+" screen.

Here's a few contenders:

Samsung UE55C9000: The dream screen! No luck in seeing one in action I'm afraid.

Samsung UE55C8000: More affordable than it's sibling and looks lovely in action.

Panasonic 50VT20: Plasma tech that I'm used to but not so keen on the styling.

Sony 52HX903: Gearing up to be a cracker but can't find one to checkout... (eagerly awaiting WHSAV review!)

Any thoughts?
