It's my birthday soon and was looking to purchase one of the Stable Platter Pioneer Series CD Players, I had a PD-S 703 years ago and loved it but sadly had to part with it when I moved into a flat.

I was wondering what people thought of the 703 onwards ?, I was thinking of getting the 703 but a later one if possible.

There's a few on eBay I'm watching.

no problem sounds good do you know whether they are analogue and digital or just digital - I only have an analogue amp ?

The 901 and 904 had optical and coaxial digital outputs, which could be turned off if you were just using the player via analogue. (That's a yes

Nice one thanks mate I'll keep my eyes out for a 901 or 904

What do you think of the earlier models they are cheaper you see)?

FrankHarveyHiFi:

If you can get a 904, they were top. Or even a 901, which was built like a tank. I've owned both in the past - excellent players.

I once had a PD-S901. It was built like a tank and would make a really great transport for a more modern DAC. I found that the 'Legato Link' processing was very unforgiving (inconsistent?) with some recordings though.

Feed it a really well recorded abum and it sounded better than an Arcam Alpha CDP (I listened to both back to back), but if the recording was not great, the player sounded very 'shut in' and somewhat compressed.

Would be interesting to hear one back to back (as a transport) compared to my Cyrus XT SE+. I have a feeling that the Pioneer would fare quite well, considering it cost me 1/4 the price of the Cyrus!

The 703 and 904 were cracking players, not forgetting that the Eikos was based on the 904...

However if i could make a suggestion you could try looking for the Pioneer PDS-505 Precision, a £485 player in its day...i personally own this player and to my ears its way better than the 703 and 904 has it has mods by Tom Evans but the player it very rare and doesnt come up for sale very often

🙂

OK those replies are just waht I'm looking for - at the moment I'm looking at an 802 in a local shop.

So we'll see what happens but I'm definately going for one of the ones mentioned in the replies.

Thanks Everyone!!!
