I was wondering if any of the team or any lx81/lx82 users could recommend a good speaker package for around the 1.8k mark? I have heard Tannoys sound the best on Pioneer amps. I must admit I love the look of all the B&W speakers but I am told B&W can sound a little brash on the lx81/82. Having said that the Tannoy Signature range wouldn't lose many beauty contests and I am more interested in the best sound than how they look. So best speakers for around £1800 for the higher end Pioneer amps?

Elvis i can recommend the Miller Kreisel M7 package i am using it with a SC-LX71 and absolutely love them. What hifi 5 star rated and were if i remember correctly a suggested pairing in one of this years ultimate guides for a pioneer SC-LX90 (don't quote me on this though). You will find that the M7 package has gone up in price since the £1750 review and is now £2150 however if you replace the sub and go for a KX12 instead of the SB12 (virtually the same sub according to my dealer) you will get it for your budget. The best as you know is subjective to me this is the best speaker package money can buy at this price point as this is what i was after myself and i spent about 12 months investigating and asking various dealers etc etc. Even if by some stretch of the imagination they aren't the "best" i don't give a **** they bring a big chessy grin to my face when i look at them and when i listen to them. Elvis these speakers will TCB baby TCB.

I may be wrong but I believe the Dali Ikon 6.5.1 set is brilliant for movies and a good match for the pioneer amp but for all round general ability I don't think you can go wrong with the Tannoy Revolution Signature DC4 (I have the DC6's). I think the RRP is about £2250 but I am sure if you shop around you'll get a much better price.

I think the general advice is that the supplied sub can let it down. So you may want to consider getting a different sub. I looked at the REL subs but to me they looked a bit like an ugly table and i wanted something that looked nice (appreciate that's not one of your considerations) so i went for a sunfire sub, which I can also recommend.

Oh and if you want cheaper still and you like style the have a listen to the tannoy arena highline 500's

Many thanks folks. The Miller and Kreisel M7's were something I was looking at but I understand they are primarily for movies. I would say the split between movies and music would be 70% movies.

Hi HD Elvis

You should also consider the new Monitor Audio Silver RX series and also the ATC Concept 1 speaker package.

Both makes will work well with music and movie soundtracks.

Thanks

In that case Elvis, the MK M Series package would fit the bill perfectly - very little can touch the MK's when it comes to reproducing movie soundtracks - it's what they're designed to do. You'll hear rumours that MK are "awful" for music. This is usually regurgitated by those who have never heard an MK system in their life, or if they have, it's been a badly matched one. We've sold countless M Series and 750 series systems to people wanting the best they can get from their movies, many under the same misguided impression of below par music. Nobody has brought their speakers back after their run in period asking for a refund/exchange due to poor music. In fact, many people are quite surprised at how good they do sound, giving music the same strengths it gives to movie soundtracks. Granted, there is some differences compared to hi-fi speakers, but that's to be expected as MK systems are based on the sub/sat design. I currently use my150's for music (no room for my hi-fi at the moment), and there's nothing wrong with them at all!

If you wanted to compare them to some hi-fi speaker packages, you could do far worse than try systems from ProAc, ATC, and KEF. Be sure to audition as many as you can.

Elvis i can feel the reservation about the M7's i suggest you get an audition , if you are looking at 70% movies then the M7's are the right choice. I would say they are great a playing music as well i listen to music all the time with them they are a great all rounder. I use an arcam r dock for the ipod and the sound is great. I can even tell you a little story about the musical capabilities of this package....... once upon a time my beautiful wife got an ipod for xmas she loves her little pod and plays music all the time with her head phones then we got a fatman with some mezzo 2's for the kids room and i was loving the music sound with the kids ipods and the wife would use it occasionally saying it was good but wasn't to keen to sit in the kids room to listen to music so would still listen with the head phones. I then got the upgrade urge and was searching for the perfect package to replace my pioneer ax5i and MK K7 system , i decided on the SC-LX71 because i have a smaller room so didn't need thx ultra i asked about all speaker systems under £3000 and after talking to several dealers went with the M7's the reason i didn't go for MK xenon's is because the M7's are better with music. Now i explained to the fair maiden that because i have a dock she would be able to listen to her ipod in the front room "i won't bother i'll use my headphones" "ok "fair maiden i said. new system arrives , set up , "it looks like the old one" , "yes dear but this one is better" so i show the fair maiden the basic operating skills needed so she can listen to her ipod which she assures me she won't bother with and low and behold but a few days later i arrive home a bit earlier as on an early shift, i'm siting on the sofa thinking i going to put some music on and the fair maiden gets up without a word puts her ipod in the dock turns the amp on , she sits down , starts listening to the music , i look at her , after a slight pause she says "i don't know why but i can't stop listening my music i'm playing it all the time now". I sit with a wry smile on my face thinking i know exactly why because it's so dam good she can't resist it. That is why i can say the M7's are good with music. You could also try looking at the monitor audio radius hd 270 system i nearly went for them but the M7's won out. Good luck with finding your choice it took me ages but i am more than happy with the M7's.

I am using B&W FPM 5's (x5) and a B&W PV1sub with my LX82 and the sound is incredible. When you use the MAACC setup it takes the sound to another level. If you have a wall mounted screen the FPM's look great alongside it.

I would second the B&W FPM range but they are very expensive.

Also the B&W MT30 sound good.

So this is the package what hi fi have recently reviewed and had it as a good match for the pioneer sc-lx82.

How does the subwoofer work, is it turn the amp on and the sub will automatically turn itself on. Or does the sub have a turn on and off switch?

Thanks
