Anyone else noticed the Pioneer price drops - e.g. the 37" is £1199 at John Lewis. I have also seen it at £1099 online?

Does this make it better competition for the Sony W4500?

Is it a viable alternative for someone concerned about quality issues with the Sony?

What is WHF's opinion on the Pioneers in comparison to the Sony with prices now more realistic?

Any opinions welcome as I am close to making the plunge - hadn't considered the Pioneer 37" as it was expensive but it looked impressive running a Pioneer HD demo when I saw it in Selfridges (also a good price!) at the weekend.

I'd still go for the Sony which you can get for less than £1000, but certainly the price drop on the Pioneer brings it more into line with rivals in that sector.

That said, we were slightly put off by the Pioneer's uneven backlight and black levels weren't quite as deep as we'd expect from a Kuro set. Its Freeview tuner is one of the best we've seen, mind, and motion is handled smoothly.
