I got the following dates for the above firmware updates from another forum;

BDP-LX91 March 30th

BDP-51/05 Mid-May!

Once again, it is not an all-important feature for myself but I believe a lot of you out there with 51's are eagerly anticipating the update (have done so for months ...)

Personally I find the delays inexcusable and surely they are no more than a clever marketing ploy to sway indecisive prospective purchasers towards the hugely expensive LX91 which obviously will get the update first or one of the new models soon to be released. The firmware update seems to indicate that it may coincide roughly with the new machines which will probably cost a fair bit more than the 51 at current prices.

Perhaps WHS&V can shed some light on this/get in contact with pioneer to get any meaningful information out of them, if that is at all possible.

Meanwhile and based on the info I have I would recommend anyone to steer clear of pioneer BR players and buy a rival brand that offers DTS-HD MA out of the box if that is an important feature for you.

Pioneer have messed current owners around for long enough and whilst at it, improving load times would be nice too with the next fw update, whenever that may be.

I have no problems with the product other than that.

I simply cannot understand why Pioneer is unable to have this feature incorporated in the product and customers have to wait for a firmware update when Panasonic can do it straight out of the box even with the BD-35!

Precisely the reason why I went for a BD-55

The first firmware update to include DTS MA was supposed to be august last year, shortly after release of the player last summer. It is now March/nearly April. That is ridiculous in anybody's book.

Oh think about it, you honestly think someone looking at the 51, which can be got for £350 is going to think "hmm, no I'd better spend 2 grand on the LX91 instead". They're not even in the same market sector! I'd be surprised if ONE person makes that leap just for that reason!

Unless of course you've got an amp that does it instead, in which case it's irrelevant.

Sure, the move from a 51 to the 91 is unlikely but you'd be surprised at the number of people that have been contemplating getting the top model above the 71. That's unlikely got anything solely to do with DTS MA but it is inevitable that the 91 will get it first even though it has been released much further down the line. Fair? I leave that up to you to decide.

If you have an amp that does it instead then there's no problem. If you don't ...

The point is the slow release of f/w updates by pioneer for something which people have paid money for/is listed as a feature of the product lhc.

So why mention it?

but you'd be surprised at the number of people that have been contemplating getting the top model above the 71.

Yes I'm contemplating it but not because the 91 has DTS MA encoding on board. Because I want the best picture I can get.

If you don't then arguably you're not getting the best out the Blu-ray format, who's fault is that?

Is listed as a feature of the product that will be enabled at a future date, as clearly stated in every piece of Pioneer literature I've ever read merman.

I've mentioned the 91 as it looks that it will get the update before the 51 and I believe that as their premium product they want to draw as much attention to it as possible, the dts ma upgrade being one of them.

I haven't read the manual front to back but on the box it clearly says DTS-MA ...

I hope you enjoy your 91 and won't need any firmware updates from pioneer buddy

No reply whatsoever from the WHS&V people on the progress (or lack of) the update on their #1 recommended product in the category?

Also, there seem to have been a few problems for a few, mostly with audio codecs, on the last fw update (1.25), resulting in temporary loss of audio. It may be a good idea to wait for the next update if you have v.1.17 and don't experience any problems other than slow load times though I have to say mine is fairly swift.

Drummerman I am not sure what your problem is, do you really think people who bought the FD-51 for example bought it just for DTS-MA i think not most who have knew that it did not have it in the first place, and if the truth be known, bought it for its quality in picture, build, looks, sound, and CD play back. As a lot of people have said most have dedicated amps anyway, i am picking up my player this weekend but i am not buying it for DTS-MA i do not even have a dedicated amp, but i am not bothered. I can understand peoples frustration with waiting, but to come on this forum and say, dont buy pioneer buy another make is pretty small minded, but thats just my opinion.
