Does anyone with this set find the screen buzz too loud? I find it very distracting and can hear it over normal dialogue. I am trying to determine if they are all like this or is mine faulty.
Trust me cooney, don't bother having it exchanged. The next one will be the same by which time you will be so paranoid about it that it seems even louder
. Just enjoy it and you won't notice soon. Drive mode 1 incidentally does reduce it slightly further.
There have been many forum conversations here and on elsewhere about this. No matter where the sets are used, be that in the UK, US, Australia etc etc, the concensus is that they all buzz pretty much to the same extend. The only difference being some folks are more susceptible to it than others. It's even printed in the pioneer manual! One explanation is the single sheet of glass used as opposed to a dual layer by some other brands and you actually find that you can get close (put your ears right up to the screen) at certain angles and hear nothing. Yet if you sit a few feet away and happen to be exactly in the spot, you can hear it. It's highly directional and they all do it, from the 50" LX's to the 60 KRP's. Wall mounting slightly exhagerates it due to further rear reflections.
If you have a set with no other problems that can sometimes afflict tv's (any tv's) such as dead pixels etc etc I really suggest you run it in and enjoy what is a truly superb product.
I have a Pioneer PDP 433PE over the last six years there have been time when i have heard a buzz from the set most of the time it is silent at listening distance sitting with your ear on the set then yes you can hear electrical buzz. My observations and conclusions about this buzz are that it is what probably referred to as white noise. I'm no expert but i will try and explain as best i can. I found the buzz was prominent when the set had been on for more than 14 hours in a day (14 hrs not anymore i might add) when the screen was displaying whiter content the buzz increased in loudness so when a darker picture was shown it was quieter hence the reason i refer to it as white noise. The noise was only ever present on TV never on watching DVD. I have never actively solved this issue it exists however i would say that after six years use i can't remember the last time i heard it as i said most of the time the set at listening distance is silent (at about 4m). Things i would suggest you look at doing to reduce/stop the noise (bearing in mind i don't know what you have or haven't done) are :
A) reduce the amount of time the set is on in a day
B) recheck your picture settings in particular contrast and brightness as high levels will increase the chance of buzz i always remember reading about picture settings and was really surprised at how low these should be to what i used to have them i have got used to them now but i can tell when i visit family they have them on higher setting and usually end up changing theirs as well.
C) don't use dynamic picture setting (contrast and brightness high)
D) use the power save option in the menu as this again reduces brightness (only very slightly) ÿ
Thats it really. I understand what you are saying when you refer to it as annoying (the buzz) it is and it can become worrying because you think your set it on the fritz well all i can say again is i have experienced this over six years sometimes it's been quite loud but i haven't heard it for ages ( i can't remember the last time it's been that long).
If you have tried the above and the set is doing it all the time from switch on etc i would suggest you contact your seller/pioneer as a possible faulty set it should really be in the main silent at listening distance.
Hi, i have the exact same problem with the buzzing, and im at least 12ft from it! It is a major pain when watching tv at night, or at low volume. I do have quite sensitive hearing though. I think they all buzz, it's just a matter of pot-luck how buzzy your tv is. I expected better from a 2k tv. Picture almost makes up for it though.
Thanks Drummerman, I have tried drive mode 1 (not much better) and drive mode 2 (slight improvement) as well as the power save mode 2 (changes the frequency but does not eliminate it. I must be very susceptible to this noise because I can hear it over and above normal dialogue.
Like yourself, I have found it very directional but as I sit near enough square on to it, there isn't much place else for me to go!
The set has a great picture with none of the dead/slow moving pixels reported elsewhere. It does however have a freeview problem but I can get round this by watching via my Panasonic DVD recorder.
I have already sent it back and am awaiting a replacement so I just hope there are no further problems. I can't believe that they all make this much noise.
Anyhow, I will post the findings of the new one when it arrives.
A) reduce the amount of time the set is on in a day
It seems to be more noticeable after the TV has been on for an hour or so. It is on for a max of about 4 hours each evening.
I am using Steve Bumtious's settings which has contrast at 32 and brightness at 40. I have even reduced these right down to the minimum, went and sat in my normal seat and could still hear it!
C) don't use dynamic picture setting (contrast and brightness high)
I totally agree. I am on movie for DVD and Blu ray, standard for TV. Blu ray is loudest, then DVD (both from Panasonic BD30) then freeview whether from DVD recorder or internal tuner.
D) use the power save option in the menu as this again reduces brightness (only very slightly)
Yes tried this!
If you have tried the above and the set is doing it all the time from switch on etc i would suggest you contact your seller/pioneer as a possible faulty set it should really be in the main silent at listening distance.
Yes I have sent it back and am waiting for a replacement. I totally agree with your statement ' it should really be in the main silent at listening distance.'
I've read many posts of this problem, but I just cannot hear it on my set.
I've sat in all different positions, tried different settings (contrast right up), and still can only hear it with my lug'ole right up close (my hearing is very good by the way).
I think you did the right thing returning it, chances are you might be lucky like me.
