Which do you think is more important for the AV experience?

ie. Would you rather have:

- A very expensive projector and big screen with a budget AV amp / Speakers / Sub.

or

- A modest 42" TV with a high-end AV amp / Speakers / Sub.

For me, it's the sound that is more important.....maybe 75 / 35.

A 42" tv is a bit small to watch a film, go for the projector.

if budget is limited (which is usually is) then I'd agree with your previous suggestion that you weight your spend towards audio - high quality surround sound coupled with average (by today's standards) picture quality on a large (ie 50"+) screen will immerse you in the film much more than the inverse option.

I used to think so until my AV amp had to go back and I had to listen through the TV's own speakers......all the excitement had gone from films, to the point I couldn't be bothered with anything that needed good 5.1 sound.

Music doesn't come into the question, as you have a separate 2 channel room in this particular fantasy.

I currently have a 32” 1366×768 screen.

I have tried to watch a film on a large screen with basic speakers.

It was fun due to it being a social event at a mates but I much prefer a decent sound system over a large screen.

I used to think so until my AV amp had to go back and I had to listen through the TV's own speakers......all the excitement had gone from films, to the point I couldn't be bothered with anything that needed good 5.1 sound.

Since getting a PJ I couldn't go back to watching movies/sports/music on a TV. No TV comes close to the immersiveness even a modest PJ provides.
