Hi, guys hope you can help.

Got a Panni 42PZ85, setting up the picture using ether THX optimiser or the Ratatouille picture optimiser can set brightness on set no probs, when i come to do contrast regardless of where I go on the contrast scale I can always see all the gradients of colour (Eg when using the THX optimiser the white square in the middle split into 8 various shades of white) hence got no idea what value to set contrast at to get the best picture (So just sticking with about 50% at the mo). Am I doing anything inherently wrong? Don't get me wrong picture is very good still, just would like to have it perform at its best.

I use the PS3, but I have tried it on my old Toshiba dvd player and it's the same.

EDIT: Once you adjust contrast re check the brightness afterwards. On the DVE set up disc you have to go backwards and forwards tweaking each one until you get the balance right. Takes a bit of fiddiling but got there in the end.

Our general rule of thumb is to set brightness at about 45%, contrast at 65% and colour around 50%. Find out more in our How To... Boost your TV's performance blog here.
