Hi

i'm thinking of upgrading my audiolab 8000c preamp to an 8000q (older uk built).

Am i right in thinking to use my turntable (michell gyro se, dynovector 10x5 ) i will need a phono stage. And if so what makes should i be looking at, i will be buying 2nd hand and have seen no audiolab phono stages for sale, and nearly £600 is a bit on the pricey side...

Well for starters I would just get a Cambridge 640p - for £60 it will outperform more expensive phono stages (up to at least a couple of hundred quid in my experience), and for that money you can get going before splashing out on anything dearer. If you want to spend more than that, a Dino is brilliant, and upgradable.

You should check though whether the old UK 8000q has one built in?
