Phono cable extension

Just after some opinions on the best way to extended the phono cable on my Rega.

Currently I've got my whole set up tucked around the corner from my listening position, it keeps the living room looking nice and tidy but means I can't use the amps remote control. This isn't really a problem when I'm using the TT but would be handy to use when I'm watching a movie.

There's space for the amp under the telly, directly in front of my listening position but the TT will have to stay around the corner. The regas fixed phono lead won't reach so I'll need to extended it's reach by 1/2m.

As far as I can tell I've got 2 choices,

1 - simple phono extension cable straight to amp
2 - buy an external phono stage then connect that to the amp

1 will be far cheaper but could affect sound quality, 2 would be pricier but would be sending a more robust signal over the longer distance.

Any input or recommendations would be most appreciated

If you already have a spare cable, you only need a connector or two. They are about a quid.

I quite agree. No point in buying a phono stage if you are not thinking of upgrading cart and everything. A pair of male-to-male connectors to join the cables are available for very little outlay.

This tends to be a problem with Rega and other turntables that have captive phono leads where you only get a metre or so to play with.
