Just bought this tv and also have a panasonic home cinema system.

Can anyone tell me if this tv has digital audio out connections ? Currently for sound and vision my tv is only connected via HDMI.

But I was also recommended to purchase a digital audio out cable.

I cannot see any connectivity like this on the tv - can anyone help / any suggestions as to what tv i need ?

sorry for sounding thick but this is the first ime i have owned / set up anything like this.

My tv is connected via hdmi to my panasonic surround sound system. at present i have surround sound working through normal connections but when i purchased the system today i was advised to purchase a digital optical audio lead to improve the sound.

the lead fits perfectly into the blu ray player but i cannot find anywhere to connect to the back of the tv so the cable is not working ?

do i not need to use a digital optical audio lead for surround sound ?

Hi Chrisku,

My 42PFL7404 has a Digital Coaxial Output for outputting sound from the TV to an amp. As far as i remember all Philips TV's use this rather than optical. Quick website check should confirm ( or look on back for a socket that looks like a single RCA one) Really only any use for TV freeview anyway. Sorry shop should have known better!

Philips are difficult tvs to set right but chuffin awesome when they are. Went into a shop recently and the 42PFL9664 was set up so badly that a £300 LG looked 10xbetter. Twitching for the remote i was!

Optical cable would be handy though to get surround sound information from a Sky box,PS3 or Xbox 360 to your Home Cinema in a box.Otherwise sound useless for you're setup.

Any questions just shout.

you will only need another connection if you want to use your all in one to amplify sound from the tv's built in tuner. Unfortunately, this tv doesn't have optical out only co-axial.
