I have just read the review on the new Philips 42PFL9664 42" LCD TV and I'm quite excited by this set; whf stated in the supertest that the gap between this set and its competitors is remarkable and gave it a glowing review.

Does anyone know if Philips will be bringing out a 47" version of this tv or is 42" the maximum size that Philips produce these days?

I've got to say that I'm not entirely suprised that a Philips tv won the supertest as I already own one and imo they are very good and generally under-rated . Philips may produce some other dodgy electrical equipment but they certainly know how to make a good tv!

I think its time WHF had a plasma super test and then an LCD super test then place the top plasma and LCD against each other. Also in the October super test it had some models missing such as the other Panasonic models 42" G15/V10 and no Samsung 7020 model?

It all sounds like you have gone off the boil with not only Panasonic plasma but also plasma screen's in general.

Panasonic should have had at least two models in the new super test and why was the new Philips 42PFL9664 not placed up against the older PES001?

I feel you are holding out the true super test until the awards. You have pointed out that Sony and the back lighting is not up to the mark yet still have two in the test again.

A better super test would be having group tests of under £1,000 and over £2,000. I would have liked to have seen the super test with these models in plus others:-

Panasonic G10/G15/V10, Samsung 7020/8000, Philips 9664/001, Sony and LG.

This is just my views and just feels with August here it would be nice if WHF would do a top 3 LCD and top 3 plasma screens.

I have not seen in 2009 a better plasma screen than the Panasonic 42V10 (not including Pioneer. And the best LCD I have seen is the Samsung 8000 (not including Pioneer. I do hope to check out the new Philips 9664 soon.

Also, pitting a £775 TV from a manufacturer vs a £1700 set from another wedges a deep chasm in terms of comparability. Yes, why not the Panasonic TX-P42V10? It has won the EISA European Plasma-TV award for 2009-2010 for example.
