I suppose I come from old school, but I still have an ear for present music which does now and then come up with good and even exciting musical material. I just wonder whether there ever come the day when no new original melodies will be no more, because all the ideas have been used up and all done before. With rap music I note that melody is not so important, more the rhythm, tempo and most importantly the lyrics. Since there is little melody I note the lyrics try to be real, more shocking to hit the listener. A lot of modern songs or rap seem to include old songs in their music, for me its a bit like I am going to ride on the fame of the old hit song inorder to popularise the present song to make money. So maybe in song land we are running out original ideas....? Its hard to be original and musicians or composers in the past who would introduce their ideas to the public for the first time would often come unstuck, usually because their ideas need time to get used to or understand the new music. For me melody always come first, then lyrics (to fill the gaps..!) so I particularly notice how melody is slowly decreasing in modern music.

However, I am a proper hip hop-head, probably more so than anyone on here (or In general life tbh. I’m bordering encyclopaedic if I’m honest, I have loads of stuff, 99% of which most people haven’t heard).

I DONT like, swearing, unesecary profanity, and all about b*tches and h*es.

However, I do promise, utter lyrical rhyming skill, to amazing beats, literal lyrical poetry...

Whatd’ya say? I’m sure I can make you love some seriously gifted poets (rappers) showcasing their talent...

*EDIT what I meant is I can put together a playlist of artists (you’ve probably never heard of), which could change your mind. As a genre it’s not all b*llocks... although to be fair, much of it is. lol.

I like both old and new music as far as it sounds good to me. Yes I love soul music, Classical, Jazz, Acid Jazz, Jazz fusion, Funk, Latin, cuban, World to Afro beat. Does not matter if its old or new. Yes also like some rap music. *i-m_so_happy*

Rap has always used existing music. If you go back to how rap/hip hop started, it was a DJ making new music with a stack of records and two turntables - no instruments. The originality was in the way the beats/basslines etc were used or strung together. This wasn’t even for recording or broadcast purposes - this was for domestic parties. Rap was born from this. So I’m always careful to say that I don’t like rap. I don’t like modern rap, which genuinely uses the whole of a popular track to gain popularity (the likes of P Diddy spring to mind, unfortunately), whereas original rap just used small sections of numerous tracks, maybe repeatedly, because it fitted and worked together - whether the track was well known or not was inconsequential, as this was being put together to energise a house party. Rapping - if I recall correctly - was born from people making general announcements over the microphone during these parties. Electro was also an offshoot, and I have to admit to liking that era of rap/hip hop/electro, despite not really knowing the full origins back then, but there’s been a few documentaries on the subject, the most recent being Hip Hop Evolution, which is well worth watching if you have Netflix. Hip hop and rap are probably unique in that they’re the only genres of music that are based around a music format - without records, there’d have not existed in the way that we know it today. Although the genre will never be the same again, there are some modern acts who have sort of continued what I call genuine hip hop and/or rap, like Kid Koala and DJ Shadow.

I travel a lot over whole uk with work so am sure I’d be close-ish at some point.

Before AVI (Active systems) assigned specialist dealers, customers would buy their systems directly from the maker and on their Forum owners of AVI (eg DM10 system) would post their invitations to proposed future AVI purchasers of an audition to hear their systems.

Thank you for the above explanation. I can in a way empathise the way Rap was first created, it seems to me it had different direction/intentions. Sadly now it has become super commercialised riding on popularity of old hits. I don't think I have ever heard the original Rap on radio the ones used for domestic parties. All I know is part of Rap seems to attract angry people who like to preach, or maybe I am confusing Rap with Grime?

I just think it would be nice to meet some more people from the forum and listen to music on different systems .

I have already been visited by Macspur and Ellisdj and vice versa, they are a couple of top blokes with very good systems .

I think there should be meet up and listen section for forum members that wish to socialise and listen to different types of system ( and music *smile* ) .

A private messaging section would be a good start . *smile*

It's not so much classical crossover as a genre, but the mis-labelling of crossover artists as classical (step forward Katherine Jenkins). Having just seen the list of attendees/award winners at the so-called Classic Brits 2018, there they are: the usual suspects. With a few honourable exceptions, barely a true classical artist or composer amongst them. Since when has Vera Lynn been a classical artist? Andrew Lloyd-Webber? Alfie Boe? Give me a break! But, even worse, are the 'you're a snob/elitist' jibes if you point this out. The winners have made a lot of people very happy with their music, but folks - it just isn't classical.

It was a great idea in theory but every AVI owner who wasn't overseas (seemes like half were) lived within a 100 miles radius of each other in the SE, so when I appealed for such a demo living in the darkest dimmest outskirts of NW England, I felt a bit like a Martian asking for directions to the nearest McDonald's. In the end I made a calculated risk and bought them blind (or should that be deaf).
