Anyone used these?

I'm looking for new speaker stands and think these look pretty good (and not a stupid price)

ear:designed for cinema.thats what their page says

I thought loudspeakers used for cinema sound were still loudspeakers. Anyway, the Partington Ansa 60 won the Gold award in HFC in 2005 and took the Silver in 2007 (not sure about 2006, I don't have the awards mag). HFC said at the time: 'The solidly engineered design means the stand has a remarkable ability to 'disappear' sonically, avoiding colorations [note the Americanism crept in there, tut tut] that commonly beset other inexpensive stands. It simply gets out of the way and lets the music do its thing - few speaker stands at any price can perform the same disappearing trick, making this a thoroughly impressive speaker support for the money.'

Sounds like it might be worth a go.

And the only one to meet with o/h approval (sadly the dreadnoughts are a no go)

Yep, either those or the Trophy. I know WHF liked the latter when they were part of a stand group test. I nearly bought the Trophy when choosing a pair of stands but went for the Target HR60 instead.

jimdonnelly:Nice looking stands Ed. I think your last sentence seals the deal!so did i till on closer inspection (of internet pictures) they seem to be glossy black which might be an issue, but then the turntable, tv and blu-ray player are shiny black so will have to see!

I'm sure that partingtons black finish is actually fairly matt though

Well they are going back. Just tried putting them together and:

1 - one of the top plates holes doesn't line up with the column so it cant be screwed on
2- one column is scratched through to the metal
3- both columns outer 4 tubes are not equal lengths meaning the top and bottom plates rock (and tightening the top plates fully appears to bend them so the speakers wouldn't have a secure seating.

I think that's all; bar the fact the courier left them outside the flat (safely under the door matt)

That's a pity. It is most annoying when something you are looking forward to does not live up to expectations. There seems to be some fundamental flaws with these though, I suspect you are drafting the complaint letter as I type this.

that can wait till tomorrow, or even Tuesday. After all i doubt there will be anyone in until then!

edit: just looked on the parcel force website and they somehow have a proof of delivery even though no one was in!

I think Partington are having some quality issues at the moment.
