Panny TVs - software updates via freesat?

I've recently taken delivery of a Panny TX-P42V20, with software version 2.009-xxxxx

The TV has freesat, freeview (which the manual always calls DVB) and analogue tuners, as well as ethernet connection options. Of these four, at the moment only the freesat input is connected (plus various stuff via HDMI of course).

According to the manual, the set's software can be updated from the internet via ethernet (bottom p.78) or automatically over the air in DVB mode (p.59), but there is no mention of equivalent updating being available via freesat, although the other freesat device I have, a Humax Foxsat HDR, does update this way.

The TV definitely does the lesser freesat EPG updates automatically, there have been two since I got it.

Does any one know if:

(a) the TV doesn't s/w update over freesat, either because it can't or because the updates won't be broadcast that way

(b) the TV will s/w update over freesat, the manual just doesn't say so

(c) the updates can be applied by any other means

FWIW, I'm in a freeview blackspot, and have absolutely no interest in any "network services" on a TV, so don't want to cable between the modem and the TV unless I actually have to.

BTW, anyone know if there's a later s/w version than I've got yet, and what if anything worthwhile it does? If all they do is e.g., add more unwanted Viera Cast channels, I wouldn't want to bother anyway.

Panny's website is, AFAICS, as useful as <insert simile here>

so far the updates dont seem to have added much - they have been mainly for Viera Cast and Skpye Messenging.

I've always used an internet connection to update my V20, did yours not come with the wi-fi dongle in the box?

Cheers,

Mick

Freesat updates will happen over Freesat if the TV is left in standby overnight and you have selected the option in your menu's. For instance the recent update to allow the 2009 G10 range to access iplayer took place over Freesat.

It would be easier to update via the Wifi USB dongle, do you have WIFI access on your modem?

Latest firmware is 2.505, there is IMHO a subtle picture quality difference between that and 2.009, but that could be how the firmware reacts to the build inside.
