WHY IS IT THAT ON THE REVIEWS HERE IT HAS 5 STARS FOR THE G10 AND SAYS THE BLU RAY IS EXCELLENT, YET FOR THE V10 ONLY 4 STARS AND THE BLU RAY NOT SO GOOD????, YET WHEN YOU COMPARE THE PRODUCTS THEY HAVE SAME SPEC FOR PICTURE ETC..???

I HAVE JUST RESERVED A G10 BUT NOW WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE TO A V10 BUT NOT SURE DUE TO THE MIXED REPORT

PLEASE HELP,

JOHNNY C

The V10 is better in that it has THX picture mode setting, giving you THX approved colours/blacks straight out of the box. Plus it has Viera Cast for LAN/internet access.

I was confused by this initially, but after an extensive demo of the v10 at a store I decided I was pleased with the blu ray performance so I went for it and I am still pleased with the decision.

I think, though I'm not sure, and it would be great if someone from what hifi confirmed this (possibly again since I may have read it on this forum) that the picture on both is pretty much the same, but that the criticism is made because the v10 is about £300 more expensive and so on a pound for pound basis, doesn't represent the best value for money. ie it is competing with products in a different price bracket and it is for this reason that the blu ray performance may be slightly disappointing, not because it doesn't perform as well as the g10.

As I say, someone at what hifi would have to confirm (or deny) this though.

In my opinion the v10 is very good, but then again I would say that. The best thing you can do is go to look at them both and see what you think - go by what you think, not by what you have read (though a thumbs up from this mag is always a good sign!)

HI THERE, MOST HELPFULL THIS IS KINDA WHAT I THOUGHT THAT ON THE VALUE FOR MONEY FRONT, BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE SOMEONE FROM WHAT HIFI CLEAR THIS UP, BUT I WILL TAKE YOUR ADVICE AND TRY THEM BOTH OUT IN STORE.

IF YOU CAN HELP ON ANOTHER MATTER PLEASE, WHAT ADVANTAGES ARE THERE WITH THE WIRELESS, CAN I LITERALLY VIEW ANY ONLINE CONTENT IE I-PLAYER OR IS IT JUST CERTAIN CHANNELS.

REGARDS

Our criticism of the V10's Blu-ray performance was only "a slight lack of fine detail", but given that it's considerably more expensive than the G10 it was enough to lose it a star.

Rivals at that price perform slightly better with Blu-ray, whereas the G10 delivers a highly competitive picture when compared to rivals in its (lower) price class. For £300 more, we'd expect the V10 to deliver a significant improvement over the G10.

As for internet access, Viera Cast is a closed system so will only enable you to view a selection of widgets and websites pre-determined by Panasonic. It doesn't give you open access to the web (unlike some of the new Philips sets, for example).

You shouldnt just rely on one review to form your opinion. There are other review sites to check out and, of course, looking for yourself in the flesh. Most other review sites would say the V10 is a better set than the G10 primarily because of the THX pixture mode.

Jcorah2,

Have you been posting on here from a phone? Is that why you're writing in capitals?

The only reason I ask is because I posted from my iphone a few times and it goes on auto capitals everytime I use this forum and I have no idea how to disengage them - just wondering if you were in the same position.

The Viera cast only really gives you Youtube, and to be honest you're better off watching that on your pc. It would be great in the future if you got the iplayer etc.

At the moment the viera cast is only handy for firmware updates
