I would appreciate any advice regarding a possible TV
upgrade. I have a Panasonic TH-46PZ80B which I’ve had for 2-3 years. Apart from
the co-ax that feeds the freeview tuner, it’s connected to a Virgin HD box and
a blu-ray player. Most of our viewing is through the Virgin box.

I think the TV produces some very good pictures and I’m
happy with the sound for general day-to-day viewing. However, whilst I can see
a difference between the SD and HD pictures, there isn’t the big difference I
would expect. I am guessing this could be down to the TV performing better with
SD pictures than with HD pictures, thus narrowing their difference. So, I’m
thinking of upgrading the TV and am considering the Panasonic TX-P46GT30 or the
Samsung UE46D7000. If I did, my daughter would benefit as well with a nice
hand-me-down.

What are the views on the relative merits of the above two
TV’s? Would either produce HD pictures that are obviously superior to their SD
pictures? At the moment I’m favouring the Panny over the Samsung. It’s cheaper,
although the Samsung is a wonder to behold, and I’m used to viewing a plasma
screen. It’s not something that can be easily compared in a shop, the screens
are set up for shop viewing, which always seems too colourful, and the signals
fed to them are not always of very good quality.

Any comments and advice would be welcome.

Thanks.

The Panasonic would be my pick, but I'm used to plasmas too. I would advise you go and have a look at both Nd demo them with a Blu ray your used too.
