hi looking for some information ! Is the panasonic th42pv80 a good buy compared to the samsung ps50a456p or samsung 46" 5 series. Different shops say different things and Im confused! All the websites say plasma better for larger screens but shops say lcd better now! Help!

do you mean the PX or the PZ. Either will probably be better than the samsung.

it's not very often that you will see a magazine review whereby an LCD beats a plasma.....

I haven't looked at any of the models, so couldn't comment on the individual models. What is strange about your choices is that they are all different sizes. Why don't you decide which size you want first, then have a proper test of relevant models in a proper shop where you can test them with the same source and set them up yourself rather than how they are for shop setup?

Ultimately it will be you watching it, not the shop assistant.

no its actually pv in fairness most reviews on line are in foreign languages so perhaps model number different in different countries! I know all 3 models are different sizes ideally Id like a 46" but for a better quality tv Im pepared to go up or down in size

Hmm, well no matter the model number, at 46", plasma is definitely going to better than LCD for SD sources (that is anything below high definition like HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, HD gaming with Xbox 360 and PS3, Sky HD etc). So if that's what you're going to be watching, you'd be better off looking at the plasma versions of the different manufacturers such as the Panasonic and Pioneer screens at both 42" and 50" size or even the Samsung PS50Q97HDX.

EDIT - sorry, completely missed out the Panasonic 46" plasmas coming out, like the TH46PZ80B and the TH46PZ85B which are obviously right on the money for your screen size.No reviews yet (that I trust) on either, so would take the time to go see them in action when they come out to decide if I were you.
