Hi Guys

Need another advice.

Since am looking for new TV i was wondering if anyone has compared these two TVs Panasonic TH-42PX80 or Sony KDL-40W4000.

The first obvious difference is one is plasma and the other is LCD.

Also the cost is quite varied the first being £579.00 for Pana and the sony at £909.00.

The pana gives 42" and the sony 40".

Other than that is there anything else from picture point of view ? and which one should i go for?

You will find both TVs in the "Best Buy" guides on this site. Read the reviews and compare them in the shops.

The PX80 must be great value for money at around £615, inc. delivery. All depends whether you insist on Full HD. Whether that is necessary depends upon your viewing distance.

I bought the 37px80 as a fill in til the new Sony, Pioneer etc Tvs came out. I like it so much , apart from being a little small, that I am going to keep it in the main lounge until I see something that can justify the price difference.

I really value the great value it offers and know that although the Sony does offer a better picture, it isn't 450 quids worth. When I get my socks blown off I'll buy, but not until then !

I have seen another Sony version the '40V4000' I think it is. The spec looks good to me...1080p, 3 hdmi and so on. Seen it for 689 pounds and that is more around the 42px80 price band so you could check that out. I have the 42px70 and it is a quality tv.

From what I've seen of the 2 sets side by side, it's questionable as to which has the "better picture". ÿIMHO the Panasonic wins hands down on SD material and even with the BBC HD demo loop I preferred it to the Sony, which seemed a bit artificial. ÿIt has to be about what you're going to watch and which you like best in the end.

I can't believe how cheap they've become even over the last couple of years. I paid the thick end of £2k for my telly about 2 1/2 years ago. It ain't even 1080P!!

Hi I have looked at both these sets also, the only thing that is holding me back from the Plasma is it uses 397watts as opposed to sonys 175watts, so it will cost a lot more to watch the same programmes

As I said before "The PX80 must be great value for money at around £615, inc. delivery. All depends whether you insist on Full HD. Whether that is necessary depends upon your viewing distance."

So, what's your viewing distance.

That isn't strictly true. The Panasonic might use a MAXIMUM of 397, however under normal use, will actually use more like 260watts. The Sony will remain constant due to the technology (unless there is a backlight dimmer function enabled). Although there might be slight differences between USA and Uk models, have a look at the below link..
linky thing

At this distance you wont benefit from 1080p. Save your money and get the PX80.
