Hello. I need some help please. I want to buy a new plasma. I will be sitting at around 12 feet. I;m thinking between pio 508xd or panasonic 42pz85.

I;m not sure about the size, wich one is better. It;s mainly to watch SD tv and some upscaled dvds.

So question is about the size and about the quality of both tvs.

Thanks for the help

If you want the Pioneer better stop thinking and snap up one of the few left (mainly ex-demos now). But it is twice the price of the Z85.

At 12ft you really need a 50" so if you cant get the Pioneer the Panny 50PZ80 is only £1150-ish.

groberton:DJ Krime will be along any minute saying Pioneer too.

Pioneer especially seeing as your viewing is going to consist manily of SD material. It's a phenomenal set at handleing SD and HD tho not full HD it does put others to shame and now with it being the less desired "last years model" there are bargains to be had! And before some wise A### says "but you have a Samsung!" that is because when I got My screen the Pioneer was over twice the price and at that point in time Mrs Krime would not alow extra spending, but in fairness my Samsung is still a fantastic screen.

From a Personal POV it is nice to see yet another person going down the pathway of a quality Plasma set rather than getting a LCD then complaining about backlght bleed and clouding etc.

Yours Plasma Man, lol

Ohthe onlyother thing I would add is make sure the Pioneer is new and not Ex-demo/shopfloor model as these might apear cheap but can come with issues as to how long has the set been used for? Warratry issues etc.

If you can not find one BNIB the I would look at the currant batch of Panasonic sets or the Samsung's as these 2 also make great Plasma sets but can vary from model to model as regards to proformance.

I listened to a lot of people on this forum and the general advice on here was 'if you can afford the Pioneer, then buy one with confidence'. Luckily I managed to find a new one and every time I watch it I am glad I spent time trying to find one.

I have only watched DVDs and SD throgh SKY on it and I am blown away by the picture quality. I can't wait until I get a blu-ray player as I feel the best is yet to come. Based on what I have seen so far, Plasma blows LCD out of the water!

The Pannys are great too but I feel the Pioneer is worth the extra.

Hope this is useful

I accept the pioneer is the better set but I picked up my 42pz85 from john lewis a couple of months back for £721 with the 5 year warranty.

Quality wise the 42pz85 is brilliant and far better to my eyes than all the lcd's....between the pioneer and the panny there's not much in it.....there is a difference but either set will not dissapoint it just depends how deep your pockets are.

I have last years Samsung Full HD Plasma offering in the PS50P96FDX and took this option over the hefty price tag of the Pioneer. I paid at the time £1200 where the best I could get the Full HD Pioneer for was £2400 and yes the Pioneer was better but IMHO not £1200 better.
