hi guys and girls,how do you convert millisecond delays to metres,booklet says that there is a chart in the back of the instructions booklet but can`t find it for the life of me.thanks all in advance

speed of sound is 340.29 metres per second at sea level.. so 1 millisecond equates to about 0.34 metres or put another way, about 3 milliseconds per metre.

so 2 metre surrounds would need a delay of 6 millisecs,would that be + or -

measure the distance from your listening position from the fronts. them measure the distance from your listening position to the rears. the difference in these distances should then be applied as a time. it should be + if the surrounds are closer to you than the fronts or a - if they are further away.

eg

sofa to fronts is 3 metres

sofa to surrounds in 1 metre

time delay should be + 6 milliseconds ( 2 metres x 3 milliseconds) as surrounds are closer and you need to delay the sound a little.
